Items with significant monetary or sentimental value should be protected and preserved.
Conservation framing involves two components -1. The materials used and, 2. The techniques used to mount and assemble the item being framed.
1. All of the mat board, foam core and other mounting materials that I stock are buffered and acid free so no off gassing takes place that can damage framed items. All of the glass and acrylic that I stock block 99% of the UV rays that damage and fade items being framed.
2. Conversation mounting techniques involve mounting the item so it is not damaged in any way and it can be removed from the frame many years down the road and look as good as it did when first framed.
Needles to say, the cost of conservation framing materials is higher than standard framing materials, so the investment in conversation framing will be higher. The benefit of long term protection of special items is well worth the investment.
